Superunion takes action to inspire change on 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s birth.
Mandela Day is a global call to action that promotes the idea that individuals each have the power to affect change in the world and make an impact, no matter how small. Nelson Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years, the campaign asks for individuals and businesses alike to start change with 67 minutes of their day.
This year, on the centenary of Mandela’s birth, with this call to action in mind, the Nelson Mandela Foundation seeks to charge society to accept Madiba’s challenge and to #BeTheLegacy. When Mandela said, “It is in your hands to make of the world a better place”, they believe he was passing on the responsibility to the next generation to lead the change for a better world.
In honour of this, our Johannesburg team joined forces with RockStartSA, a social initiative that provides young people with access to education to enter creative careers, with a campaign for The House in Hillbrow, a shelter that provides a temporary refuge for vulnerable girls and teaches them vital skills towards independence. The Superunion team collected clothing, shoes and sanitary items to donate to The House, as well as provided lunch for its residents. Excitedly, the team has plans to continue their involvement with this project with a number of pro bono brand strategy projects.
Our Cape Town team kindly assisted the Epic Foundation in creating comfort care packages for the survivors of rape and abuse. In most instances when women arrive at shelters, they do not have any personal belongings with them. These packages provide something which is their own, filled with essential contents that they can use on their arrival and in the weeks to come.
